Tuscany, one of Italy’s vastest regions, is a land full of valleys and sloping hills alongside a harsh, mountainous landscape.
There are important marble caves at Versilia, Garfagnana and in the Apuane Alps. The Tuscan provinces are Arezzo, Florence, Grosseto, Livorno, Lucca, Massa Carrara, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato and Siena. Each one of these cities deserves individual attention for their historical and architectural interest. Tuscany is an open air museum and we can only point out a small amount of its numerous attractions. Florence is one of the most visited cities in the world, Ponte Vecchio over the River Arno, Piazza della Signoria, the Uffizzi Gallery, Santa Croce and Santa Maria Novella are but a few of the most important sights for visitors to the city. Pisa which rose next to the sea in ancient times, was one of the four Marine Republics. During this period it also flourished artistically. Next to the Cathedral we find the Battistero building and the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. A special mention goes to Siena which still respects Tuscan traditions. Inside the ancient city walls it preserves a charming medieval atmosphere. Piazza del Campo, where the famous Palio is held every year, is dominated by the majestic bell tower from where the city and beautiful Chianti countryside can be admired. San Gimignano is another charming and architecturally rich town in the province of Siena. Arezzo and Lucca like all of Tuscany’s provinces deserve a visit . Tuscany is also famous for its beautiful seaside resorts: Capalbio, Forte dei Marmi, Il Giglio, the Island of Elba, Lido di camaiore, Marina di Massa, Orbetello Viareggio to name but a few. The most important thermal spa resorts in Tuscany are: Bagni di Lucca, Chianciano terme, Montecatini and Saturnia. Tuscany welcomes thousands of guests every year and offers a wide and varied range of accommodation choices.
