Brindisi is located in the northeastern part of the Salento plain, about 40 km from the Itria valley on the foothills of the Murge range close to the WWF Natural Marine Reserve of Torre Guaceto. The Ionian Sea is 45 km away while Lecce is distant only 39 km. There are many historical and artistic monuments which enrich the city including the Church of St. Benedict, built in 1090 with a Romanesque style bell tower. There is also the loveliest Romanesque cloister of the eleventh century and the Church of St. John at the Sepulchre. Brindisi Airport, 6 km from the city center, has daily connections with major Italian and European cities.
