ISTORY AND DESCRIPTION:

In the picturesque surroundings of the city of Syracuse, the ancient millstone, belonged to the Barons Francicanava of Catania, is from 1995, Gravina family's property, and now a structure of rural tourism. The construction of the house probably dates back to 1812, as it was carved on the keystone of the main entrance. The house consisted of a noble part on the first floor, with a stone fireplace and in the master bathroom, a bathtub, which is also made from stone and rare for that period, unfortunately, been lost along with the family crest. The ground floor was the winery itself and included the "dammusi" (from the Arabic word "DAMMUS", indicating a vaulted building with thick walls which enables it to keep cool in summer and warm in winter).

For this particular building, the surrounding area is called "The DAMMUSI".

In the property there is an old and still working well, the only one in the area, since ancient times suppling drinking water to farmers.

Now, a recent restoration has brought the structure to its original splendor, while maintaining its historical memory.

The building offers thirteen rooms to guests, furnished with taste and refinement and equipped with every comfort (Termoclima,TV, WIFI, bathroom with shower or bath tub, etc..).


Each room has a private entrance.

A large terrace is ideal, especially in summer, to enjoy moments of relaxation and good for breakfast.



OTHER SERVICES:

Its privileged setting offers the possibility of regenerating stay in contact with nature lovers and outdoor sports enthusiasts will be able to devote to swimming in the pool with solarium, jogging, etc..

The strategic location of the millstone in the nearest outskirts of the city center, allows you to visit the city of Syracuse, UNESCO city, masterpiece of art and history and the archaeological sites of great cultural interest, also used for various events organized throughout all the year (Greek Theatre, Ear of Dionysius, Ortigia, etc..), and is simultaneously near the highway entrance, allowing guests to easily make excursions to other tourist destinations including Noto, Vendicari, Etna Mount, Taormina, etc.

Not far away and reachable within minutes by car, the crystal clear waters of the marine protected area "Plemmirio", which has nothing to envy to the tropics, with beaches of golden sand and spectacular cliffs.
