Of mythical Ichnusa, the oldest island in the heart of the Mediterranean, everything has been written and said. Are you planning to spend part of your holiday in Sardinia but want to do it off the usual tourist routes while experiencing a healthy and adventurous alternative? Book a B&B Sardinia and bring your bike, the Transardinia West trail is the answer you've been searching for.
This route runs along footpaths, mule trails and dirt roads, avoiding as much as possible paved roads, and takes you to the wildest areas of the island, passing through little-known villages, as well as great places to eat and sleep. In addition to the inland mountains, the route takes in several sections along the coast and cliffs with breathtaking views of the sea, where green vegetation blends with the deep blue sea. After leaving Alghero and having experienced a scenic route with unparalleled sunsets you arrive in Bosa, a medieval town rich in history, a pearl of the western coast. Then continue until you reach the white cliffs of St. Catherine of Pittinuri, the Sinis Peninsula, the sand dunes of Piscinas, famous around the world for their astonishing height, where junipers grow with trunks twisted in the wind. The path leads to the southern tip of the island, near Pula, a legacy of the ancient Phoenician civilization and the Roman town of Nora.
The trail was designed by Amos Cardia, one of the first Transardinia Classic guides. Two years of mountain bike exploring, many of which are documented with photographs, were needed to complete this wonderful tour of the western coast of Sardinia.
Don't wait until summer…leave now, Sardinia will surprise you all year long!
