The Uffizi (1560 - 1580) were used as offices for magistrates, judges, technicians, and merchants of Florence and later transformed into a private gallery for the pleasure of the ruling families of the city including the Medici and their guests. Besides statues, paintings, jewels, and scientific instruments, weapons were also on display making the gallery one of the most interesting collections in the world. In 1865 the Uffizi became a museum and today it is composed of 50 rooms containing works of art from the 13th to the 18th centuries. The museum is open everyday except Monday from 8:15am until 6:50pm and full price tickets are €15.
