Pompeii is an ancient city built at the foot of Mount Vesuvius that flourished during the time of the Roman Empire. It was destroyed in 79 A.C. following the famous volcano eruption that covered the city with lava and ash. The first archaeological explorations took place in the first half of the 18th century. There were frequent excavations but they only became systematic and organized from 1860. It has been estimated that so far, roughly three fifths of the ancient urban area has been brought to light. One of the most important archaeological sites in the world, it offers a precise and complete picture of the urban planning and daily life of a Roman city. In this unique setting, the B&B is situated just 200 metres from the Sanctuary and 300 metres from the excavation entrance. It is located near the NA-SA motorway (100 metres), the railway station, Circumvesuviana (stop Santuario) and coaches and taxi stops which provide fast services to Naples, Sorrento, Terme Stabiane, Ercolano, Mount Vesuvius and its park land, the Amalfi Coast and Paestum. Capri can be easily reached from Castellammare di Stabia. There are two newly renovated studio apartments available for guests. One is a two-room apartment (29 m.sq.) with a double bed plus two small beds and a room with a sofa, chest of drawers and exercise bike. The other apartment is a one-room apartment (25 m. sq.) with a double bed and a sofa bed. Both apartments have: heating in winter and cold air ventilation in summer, TV, private bathroom with shower and hairdryer. The accommodation is comfortable and nicely furnished. The rooms open onto a spacious terrace that overlooks an orchard. Breakfast can be served on the terrace that doubles as a sun room in the warmer months. Its central location means that any area of the city can be easily reached on foot. Bicycle hire is available on request. Guests are assured a warm, friendly welcome. The owner is happy to advise visitors on the best spots to visit and routes to take.
