Ortonovo is the eastern most district of the Ligure di Levante Riviera. It boarders with the province of Massa Carrara at the foot of the first spurs of the Apuane Alps. Its origins can be traced back to the ancient Roman town Luni from where the villages of Iliolo, Nicola, Annunziata and Ortonovo were founded. The old town centre was the property of the Luni bishops and counts and, as proven by a document from the time of Barbarossa, between the XI and XII centuries it was constituted to bishop Pietro. The town is characterized by two doors, both in working order and by a structure with concentric rings, the most external structure serves as the city wall. Places of interest include the Ortonove castles, Volpiglione and Nicola with villages and churches that all bear the signs of the long historical and artistic tradition of the land. It is in an ideal spot for visiting other important Tuscan towns and beaches: Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio are 20 kms away and the romantic Cinque Terre is 25 kms. The house is situated on a hill and has a large terrace and a beautiful view of the sea. There are two double bedrooms for guests and one private bathroom with shower. The rooms are simply furnished and comfortable. Breakfast is served by the owner in the kitchen or on the terrace in good weather. A car is necessary.
