Montopoli in Valdarno is situated on the left side of the Arno river. It has medieval origins, though in the area traces of Etruscan and Roman settlements can also been found. The town was greatly contested as it lies between important Tuscan cities like Lucca ( 41 km), Pisa (km 43) and Florence (km 52). Defined as an "outstanding castle" by Giovanni Boccaccio, visitors can still see remains of the towers and fortifications, testimony to the town's military past. But it is the landscape that is the true show stopper here as the territory lies on rolling hills, full of villas and ancient villages that border the Arno river. Among the most important monuments in Montopoli in Valdarno are the tower and the Castruccio Arch dating from the thirteenth century, the Tower of St. Matthew, built in 1431 and now an emblem of Montopoli, the Parish of Saint Stephen and John the Evangelist. The B&B is located in the locality of Marti, in a completely restored country house surrounded by a garden with children's play area and gazebo.
