"Rugapiana" takes its name from the road it looks out on, or "flat road" because it is the only flat road in the historical centre of Cortonia. The term "Ruga" in fact, in ancient times was used to identify a street with workshops and houses. Nowadays, this road is closed to traffic and gives visitors the chance to travel back many centuries in time. Here everything has a feel of Etruscans, of medieval times, of the Renaissance. It is the most popular road in this lively town and its inhabitants and tourists today, as much as ever, come to visit this authentic medieval jewel. Its Etruscan walls are flanked by the hills that dominate the valley lying below and a stretch of Lake Trasimeno. In the middle of this road an old building has been carefully restructured into apartments with equipped kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom with modern comforts. All the interior decor is characterized by the walls built in local stone, in some places plastered and in others left in full view. This particularly cosy accommodation also has traditional tiled floors and wooden-beamed celings to keep the original architectural features. Particular attention has been paid to the decor. Nearly all the furniture is valuable antique but the kitchen and bathrooms have all the modern comforts. For guests there are 10 double rooms with private bathroom . The building is in a magnificent location and the whole city can be visited on foot like the old part with its traditional shops, cafès, restaurants, its winding streets, its churches and its museums. There is parking just 50 metres from the house and it is a pleasant drive to the nearby towns and cities of Montepulciano, Florence, Perugia, Siena, Assisi, Gubbio, Spoleto, Cianciano, Monte Amiata or Lake Trasimeno and its islands.
